Who We Are

HERPol Africa was founded with the aim of Promoting sustainable community
development in Ghana and beyond by Inspiring, educating and empowering individuals,
and Informing policy decisions

Our work is guided by its mission to promote sustainable community development in Ghana and Beyond. One of the bigest NGO in the Africa. It was created in 2019.

The growth of rural communities, slums and poor residential neighborhoods is a global
challenge which leads to the growth of urban populations. Approximately, 25% of the
world’s urban population resides in informal settlements (UN-Habitat, 2013b: 126–8).
These communities are beseeched with poverty, unemployment, lack or poor services
and social amenities (UN-Habitat, 2015b; Brown, 2015; Zhang 2016).

The Northern Ghana Human Development report (NG-HDR) by the United Nations
Development Program (UNDP 2018 report) indicates poverty and human resource
deficit in the Northern regions as factors that can hinder the region and Ghana from
attaining the sustainable development goals (SDG) particularly SDG1.
Huge disparities exist in the levels of empowerment of men and women. Women are at
greater risk of unemployment, early marriage, teenage pregnancy, physical and
gender-based violence. Most households in these informal settlements are worst hit by
poverty.
Young women, particular in the Northern region often miss out on opportunities for
formal paid employment because they have children at an earlier age contrary to
educated young women in established settlements. They also take on more domestic
responsibilities than men that limit their ability to participate more fully in
employment and training.
To overcome these challenges coordinate efforts at addressing education and
healthcare delivery, Information, communication Technology (ICT), gender inequity and
youth unemployment would ensure inclusivity, equity and empowerment. We harness
education, training and mentorship to challenge vulnerable women and youth to
develop themselves and provide them the platform to provide community-based
solutions that would benefit their families and community at large.
